Since its founding in 1973, Kansas-based Youngers and Sons Manufacturing Company, Inc. has achieved steady growth. But in 2020, a plan for improving existing processes and facilities revealed some glaring inefficiencies and avoidable expenses, primarily with its metal scrap and fluid recycling operations.
The company had been relying on third-party providers for haul away, processing, and recycling, and were not getting the most value for their scrap, nor recovering enough fluid for reuse. Thus, Youngers and Sons began an initiative to optimize its rudimentary scrap and recycling programs to cut costs, improve workplace safety, and maximize scrap value.
To improve production efficiency and plant safety, Youngers and Sons worked with PRAB to install new, automated chip processing and coolant recycling systems. The equipment significantly increased metal scrap value and reduced new fluid expenses while playing a major role in environmental compliance, housekeeping, and plans for the company’s future growth.
